چکیده

Background: The aortic stiffness has widely been reported as an independent indicator of all–cause mortality and cardiovascular diseases. Traditional methods for measuring arterial stiffness in vivo involve either invasive procedures or provide a global average estimate. An attractive alternative for noninvasive estimation of local arterial stiffness is based on pulse wave imaging (PWI), a method developed by our group [1,2,3] for regional pulse wave visualization and regional pulse wave velocity (PWV) measurement.

Pulse-wave propagation in straight-geometry vessels for stiffness estimation: theory, simulations, phantoms and in vitro findings.

Pulse wave imaging (PWI) is an ultrasound-based method for noninvasive characterization of arterial stiffness based on pulse wave propagation. Reliable numerical models of pulse wave propagation in normal and pathological aortas could serve as powerful tools for local pulse wave analysis and a guideline for PWI measurements in vivo. The objectives of this paper are to (1) apply a fluid-structur...

TREMR: Table-resonance elastography with MR.

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a noninvasive method of measuring tissue compliance. Current MRE methods rely on custom-built hardware to elicit vibrations that are tracked by MR imaging. Knowledge of the wave propagation can be used to calculate the local shear stiffness of the tissue. We sought to determine whether the vibrations of the patient table that result from low-frequency sw...

Mapping the longitudinal wall stiffness heterogeneities within intact canine aortas using Pulse Wave Imaging (PWI) ex vivo.

The aortic stiffness has been found to be a useful independent indicator of several cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and aneurysms. Existing methods to estimate the aortic stiffness are either invasive, e.g. catheterization, or yield average global measurements which could be inaccurate, e.g., tonometry. Alternatively, the aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) has been shown to be a reli...

Thorax organ dose estimation in computed tomography based on patient CT data using Monte Carlo simulation

Background:  This study presents patient specific and organ dose estimation in computed tomography (CT) imaging of thorax directly from patient CT image using Monte Carlo simulation.  Patient's CT image is considered as the patient specific phantom and the best representative of patient physical index in order to calculate specific organ dose. Materials and Methods: EGSnrc /BEAMnr...

Numerical Studies of Pulse Wave Propagations along Inhomogeneous and Stented Aortas

Estimating the focal variations in the stiffness of the aortic wall has been found as an effective method for cardiovascular diseases diagnosis. Direct measurement of the wall stiffness noninvasively may not prove readily possible, and therefore the velocity of the pulse wave along the aortic wall has been shown to be an effective surrogate to estimate the wall stiffness. Given that the majorit...
